The jacare-do-pantanal, usually lives in the Swamps of the braziliens states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, and for a long time they have been hunted in a ilegal practice, for selling its skin in the international trade. Since the publication of the law protecting the fauna, the breeding is a legal alternative but it is left behind due to technical difficulties to the execution and co-existence with legal hunting. The breeding of alligators in ranching system (gathering of eggs in the nature and raising the babies in captivity) is a feature accepted by IBAMA (Brazilian Institut of Environment Protection) since 1990, which has made possible the settlement of several breeding places. The execution of these projects have shown that the alligator breeding is a complex activity, not only for problems of production, but also for several other reasons related to it. |
