Benomyl, thiabendazole or RH 2161, but not PCNB or chlorothalonil were carried into soybean seed-coats, when undamaged seeds were soaked in a mixture of each fungicide with either benzene or ethanol for 30 minutes or longer. None of the fungicides were carried to the endosperm. The quantity of fungicide in the seed-coat did not increase with increased exposure time in the fungicide-solvent mixture. Percentage emergence of soybean seeds treated with a mixture of benomyl, thiabendazol or RH 2161 in benzene or ethanol, or soaked in benzene alone, was significantly higher than that of untreated seeds. Washing fungicide-treated seed surfaces did not reduce the emergence below that of nonwashed seeds. Soaking soybean seeds in benzene or ethanol alone significantly improved emergence above controls. |

The aim of the present study was to evaluate pregnancy rates and reproductive characteristics of three different lineages: Antiga (A), Nova (N) and Cruzada (C) of Canchim bulls. The bulls (n=27; 52.0±2.7 months; 674.7±18.6 kg) were kept on pasture, from 2014 to 2017, comprising the breeding seasons. Prior to entry in the breeding season, the bulls underwent breeding soundness evaluation. Bulls were annually challenged to mount an average of 40 Canchim cows (n=990). In order to evaluate the pregnancy rate, the cows were submitted to transrectal ultrasonography at the end of the season. After andrological evaluation, each bull was classified as Superior or Intermediary, according its seminal quality. Animals of the N and C lineages had higher pregnancy rates (P<0.05). Bulls classified as Superiors presented higher pregnancy rates, compared to the data of the population evaluated (P<0.05). |
