J. aBenzene and ethanol for treatment of soybean seeds with systemic fugicides. c1979 aBenomyl, thiabendazole or RH 2161, but not PCNB or chlorothalonil were carried into soybean seed-coats, when undamaged seeds were soaked in a mixture of each fungicide with either benzene or ethanol for 30 minutes or longer. None of the fungicides were carried to the endosperm. The quantity of fungicide in the seed-coat did not increase with increased exposure time in the fungicide-solvent mixture. Percentage emergence of soybean seeds treated with a mixture of benomyl, thiabendazol or RH 2161 in benzene or ethanol, or soaked in benzene alone, was significantly higher than that of untreated seeds. Washing fungicide-treated seed surfaces did not reduce the emergence below that of nonwashed seeds. Soaking soybean seeds in benzene or ethanol alone significantly improved emergence above controls. aGlycine Max aBenzeno - soja - tratamento aEtanol - Soja - tratamento aSoja- fungicida sistemico aSolventes organicos - soja - tratamento1 aDHINGRA, O.
