Twenty pregnant Angora goat does were used in an experiment designed to investigate the effect of prolonged cortisone>treatment on pregnancy. Ten experimental animals were injected with 100 mg hydrocortisone acetate daily from approximately the 70th day of gestation. In this group 77,8 per cent of the animals aborted while the remaining does gave birth to non-viable kids. No abortions were encountered in the control group. The results of this investigation corroborate previous findings that in abortions where adrenal function is concerned, the primary cause thereof is a protracted abnormally high level of maternal corticosteroids. |
