The results of deep ploughing of a parabraunerde derived from loess (Udalf) are discussed. Changes in soil water characteristics and total soil volume and the vertical stress situation in the soil profile before and after deep ploughing are compared with a similar, but non-tilled, forest soil. Deep ploughing makes the structure of the orchard soil only temporarily more or less similar to that of the non-tilled forest soil. Conclusions are drawn concerning the conditions under which the loosening due to deep ploughing might be conserved. |
