Three areas of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy are discussed that are having a significant impact in plant cell wall research. These are: (1) high field/high resolution solution methods, especially 2D methods, on isolated components; (2) solid-state techniques, especially using cross-polarization/ magic-angle spinning (CPMAS) and (3) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), both macro and micro. Examples are taken from recent literature and from our own laboratory. Some additional data interpretations are made. A few comparisons are made with other methods to explain features or relate results. |
