Two trials with three feeding levels were carried out on goats in a semi-arid region of Northeastern Mexico during 1980 and 1981. The goat population in this area was mainly fed on crop residues, agricultural by-producis and on irrigated forages. Milk production data of accumulated and non-accumulated lactation curves were computed. These curves were computed for each goat within treatment. It was found that lactation peak in goats occurred 5-6, 10- 11 or 17-19 weeks post-kidding, depending on feeding level. There was a trend to delay the maximum milk production as the feeding level decreased. The total milk production tended to have higher variations among goats within treatments as the feeding value increased. |
