Following the report by Akkermans et al (1956) of differences between the pathogenic vibrios isolated from cattle, Florent (1959) described Vibrio fetus (venerealis) and Vibrio fetus (intestinalis). V. fetus (intestinalis) is know to be a cause of sporadic abortion in cattle (Akkermans et al., 1956), but is not generally considered to be a cause of infertility, although Park et al., (1962) believed that this possibility should not be ignored. The cultural, morphological and biochemical of isolates of V. fetus (intestinalis) from cattle, sheep and pigs appear to be similar. |
