Performance of 4 imported sheep breeds (Rambouillet, Corriedale, American Romney Marsh and British Romney Marsh) and the native Criolla is reported. Records on 6653 ewes and 5530 lambs were obtained for 16 yr. Reproductive performance, survivability and production of meat and wool were investigated. The effects of breed and year were found significant in all traits tested. Male lambs were significantly heavier than females; but, females, on the average, had a higher survival rate. Year by breed interaction was significant in a majority of the traits. The overall production of the Criolla compared favorably with the imported breeds. Ranking the breeds on composite traits, the British Romney Marsh weaned significantly more kilograms of lamb/ewe bred followed in order by Criolla, Corriedale, Rambouillet and American Romney Marsh. The American Romney Marsh and Corriedale produced significantly more wool per ewe than the other imported breeds while the Criolla produced the least. |

Foram realiazados 18 ensaios em casa de vegetação visando definir a melhor relação N/S para os solos de "tabuleiro" do Recôncavo em áreas representativas dos municípios de Amélia Rodrigues, Cachoeira, Conceição do Almeida (IBF e EEFT), Cruz das Almas, Feira de Santana; Jaguaripe, Muritiba e Santo Antonio de Jesus. Foram usadas duas plantas indicadoras (Sorghum vulgare Pers. E Medicago sativa L.) testando em onze tratamentos os efeitos de oito relações N/S. Dos resultados obtidos concluiu-se que uma relação N/S = 8 foi a mais indicada para estes solos. |
