The .gamma.-globulins reached a peak level within 72 h in lambs and kids restricted to feeding for 0, 6 and 18 h. The attainment of peak level of .gamma.-globulins was delayed and reached within 1 wk in groups fed milk for 24 and 72 h. The amount of globulin was comparatively less in these milk-fed lambs (33.3%) and kids (40.0%). The best live-weight gain was achieved in lambs/kids restricted from sucking for 18 h. The mortality and growth data showed that colostrum was necessary for better survival and growth of lambs and kids, but even if they did not get it within certain h or got only milk for limited h, they can survive, grow and thrive. |
