A case study is presented on the irrigation performance assessment of the Paracatul/Entre-Ribeiros project, a privately owned/managed center-pivot irrigation scheme in South-eastern Brazil. Seven indicators were chosen (delivery perfonnance, overall consumptive ratio, sustainability of irrigated area, power and energy consumption. operation and maintenance fraction, unit gross economic return. and global revenue/cost ratio) to assess the performance of the scheme in the period from 1997 through 2000. The values obtained for these indicators seem to have adequately expressed the current situation of the scheme by identifying low values of overall consumptive ratio. an indication of the need for improvement in the water management strategies of individual farmers. |
