Anthelmic resistance amongst various nematodes species is a recently recognised pheno- menon. Current research shows that it is occurring with increasing frequency and may, in the long term, restrict the yield of protein and by-products from animal production systems. In this paper, we have attempted to provide information on the genetic aspects of anthel- mintic resistance and an understanding of the way in which this phenomenon occurs. Details of the present status of anthelmintic resistance in Australia are given and the me- thods by which resistance may be recognised in the field are discussed. |
