D. aAnthelmintic resistance in nematodes. I. History, present status in Australia, genetic background and methods for field diagnosis. c1979 aAnthelmic resistance amongst various nematodes species is a recently recognised pheno- menon. Current research shows that it is occurring with increasing frequency and may, in the long term, restrict the yield of protein and by-products from animal production systems. In this paper, we have attempted to provide information on the genetic aspects of anthel- mintic resistance and an understanding of the way in which this phenomenon occurs. Details of the present status of anthelmintic resistance in Australia are given and the me- thods by which resistance may be recognised in the field are discussed. agenetic background aNematóide aResistência aAnthelmintic resistance aAntihelmintico aFundo genetico aMethods for field diagnosis aMetodo para diagnose de campo aNematode aParasita aParasite1 aHALL, C.
