A mosaic disease of cassava (Manihot utilissima Pohl), first reported in East Africa under the name of " Krauselkrankeit " by Warburg (1984) and studiesby Zimmermann (1906), is now prevalent in East Africa and the adjucent islnads. More recently, it has been reported from most countries of western and central Tropical Africa (Dade, 1930); Deighton, 1932; Defrenoy & Hedin, 1929; Mckkinney, 1929; Pascalet, 1932; Staner, 1931), from Madagascar (Bouriquet, 1932; Francois, 1937), and from Java (Muller, 1931). There has been growing recognition of the serious losses that the disease entails. |
