Coffee cup quality is influenced by several biochemical components in beans. Among these chemical compounds, the diterpenes cafestol (CAF) and kahweol (KAH) are related to nutraceutical, health and sensorial characteristics of beverage, as well as plant defense mechanisms against herbivory. Despite their importance, studies that depict the genetic and biochemical mechanisms involved in CAF and KAH biosynthesis are still incipient. In this way, we used an integrated analysis of CAF/KAH metabolite accumulation and large-scale transcriptome analyses during coffee fruit development to identify candidate genes related to diterpene biosyntheis in Coffea arabica. |
