During an investigation of "shealt rot" in sheep a condition known also as ovine posthitis, balanitis or "pizzle rot", it was found that some graziers believed that susceptibility to the disease was related to the age at which lambs were castrated. Although the investigation failed to reveal any sound basis for such a belief, certain features of the anatomy of the pennis and prepuce of ram lambs and wethers were observed which merit description. Figure 1. Protruded penis of lamb aged 1-6 wwks (stage 1); Figure 2. Dessection of prepuce and penis of ram lamb 16 weeks old, showing relation of glans penis and procesus urethrae to the preputial mucosa (Stage 2.) |
