W. em animais de laboratório e, também, a digestibilidade em ovinos. As silagens foram constituídas de flor de seda (FS) pré-secas em 12, 24 e 36. Foram utilizadas amostras da planta in natura e ensilada. O extrato alcoólico obtido, foi administrado em camundongos via intraperitonial (i.p.) para determinação da DL50 e observação do quadro clínico dos animais. Para os teste de digestibilidade foram utilizados carneiros da raça Santa Inês adaptados às dietas. Analisou-se a matéria seca, proteína, energia, fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA). Observou-se uniformidade nos sinais toxicológicos entre os camundongos e os ovinos. As concentrações do extrato líquido (EL) da FS in natura e das silagens com 12, 24 e 36 horas com base na matéria seca foram: 19,31; 12,87; 9,80 e 7,77 %, respectivamente. A DL50 observada foi de 4,7 g do EL/kg de peso vivo. As digestibilidades da MS, MO, PB, FDN e energia aumentaram com o acréscimo do NFS. [Preliminary studies of the Calotropis procera S. Abstract: The objective to determine DL50 and the clinical effects caused on mice (Mus musculus) by the alcoholic extract of Calotropis procera S.W. silage, and silage digestibility by sheep. The concentration of the alcoholic extract, obtained from milk-weed silage and fresh material, was determined, and then its toxicity was evaluated in mice. Silages were constituted of three levels of milk-weed (FS) submitted sun drying times (12, 24 and 36 hours). Alcoholic extract used was obtained from fresh milk-weed and silage 100 g samples. This extract was administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) to mice for DL50. Milk-weed digestibility test was run in Santa Ines hair sheeps. Evaluated were dry matter, protein, energy, NDF and ADF. Toxicological signs in mice that received alcoholic extract doses close to DL50 showed to be similar to those presented by sheep. The concentrations of the liquid extract (EL) from fresh and ensilaged (12, 24 and 36 hours) milk-weed, in a dry matter basis, were 19.31; 12.87; 9.80 and 7.77%, respectively. DL50 observed was of 4,7 g of the EL/kg of animal weight.
