[S.l.: s.n.]c2012 ap. 104-107. aThis study demonstrates how the promotion of food security through actions and mechanisms of technology transfer (TT) contributes to the development of local communities in the insular region of Belem. The food security was ensured through training of community workers, dissemination and demonstration of agricultural technologies for cultivation in peri-urban areas aiming the subsistence consumption and marketing of the surplus. The local development was achieved, from the community involvement in the adoption of transferred and developed technologies by research institutions and in motivation of building social capital and empowerment of families served, with the possibility of formation of public policies for promoting the right citizenship.
