DC. and Ocimum mericanum L. collected around the city of Belém, Pará. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer. The main components identified in the essential oils were patchouli alcohol 21.9 % (Pogostemon heyneanus Benth), safrole 64.3 % (Piper hispidinervum C.
