G.  aThe value of cephalic structures as characters in nematode classification, with special reference to the superfamily Spiruroidea.  c1934  aDuring the past therre years , the writers have been engaged in a critical study of the cephalic structures of nematodes. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the value of cephalic structures of nematodes as suitable or unsuitable characteres for use building up a sound and workable classification, there being no sound orentirely workable classification in use to-day. The cephalic structures of more than 550 nematodes have been studied and, as a result, it is now believed that the basis for a reasonably sound classification has been worked out, for it has been demonstrated that the priciples underlying the system of classification which has been found to be applicable to the group Spiruroidea are just as applicable to other groups of nematodes - The purpose of this paper is to present the generalities arrived at by the writers and the application of these generalities to a particular group, the superfamily Spiruroidea. The feasibility of utilizing cephalic structures in nematodes systematics has been demonstrated by example in this superfamily.
