(andiroba), in the Manaus-AM (Brasil). The exodermis reveals a special wall structure of suberinized cells in order to resist drought. The exchange kinetics for calcium showed that the special structure of the exodermis and of the endodermis regulates the flux into the primary xylem. The results indicate that andiroba adapts remarkably to drought and mineral element deficiency which favours this species for mixed plantations at the terra firme of the region of Manaus. aagroforestry amultiple cropping anutrient transport atropical rain forests awater deprivation aAndiroba aCarapa Guianensis aCultivo Multiplo aDeficiência Hídrica aFloresta Tropical Úmida aRaiz aRelação Água-Planta aTransporte de Nutriente aAgrofloresta aAmazonas aBrasil aManaus aPlant water relations aRoot1 aKUHN, A.
