G. aSomatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration through cell suspensions in Musa acuminata. c1993 aCell suepensions of Musa acuminata ssp burmannicoides and Musa acuminata ssp malaccensis were obtained by culturing embryogenic callus initiated from immature zygotic embryos in liquid medium. Plant regeneration was then achieved through somatic embryogenesis. Germination of these embryos occurred in a modified MS medium containing auxin and cytokinin. Plant recovery frequencies were 20 to 36%. This method may allow a better utilization of biotechnologies in genetic improvement of the Musa diploid species, essential for banana and plantain breeding. asomatic embryogenesis aMusa sp aRegeneraĆ§Ć£o aCell suspension aDiploids aEmbriogenesis aIn vitro aPlant regeneration aSomatica aSuspensao1 aPADUSCHECK, C.1 aESCALANT, J.
