Numerous studies have attempted to determine the nature of the disease since its recognition in India in 1891 (75), producting over publications since 1910 (7), although many of these add little to our knowledge of etiology or control. A recent chapter (28) on mango malformation deals comprehensively with the disease, including its physiology. Thi review aims to consolidate and clarify existing knowledge, particulary on etiology and control, and to indentify future areas of research that might be useful in soloving this "century-old" disease. aetiology aFusarium subglutinans aCultural and chamical control aFungus-host interaction aMango abnormality1 aSINGH, U.
