B. humidicola, also known as koronivia grass, is an African species well adapted to acid and poorly drained soils (DIAS-FILHO, 2005). Despite its lower productivity and nutritive value when compared to other Brachiaria species it is widely used in millions of hectares of pastures in tropical Latin America. There are only three cultivars registered for commercialization in Brazil and since the mode of reproduction is by apomixis, the variability available is restricted. Breeding has only been achieved recently at Embrapa Beef Cattle, using a sexual tetraploid ecotype crossed to an apomict cultivar, cv. BRS Tupi (VALLE et al., 2008). Hybrids of B. humidicola with superior productivity and nutritive value should contribute significantly to the production systems, especially in areas where B. brizantha cv. Marandu has declined due to poor adaptation to waterlogged conditions (BARBOSA, 2006). This paper reports the agronomic evaluation of 50 hybrids and the two genitors in plots under savanna conditions. The objective was to determine genetic and phenotypic parameters associated to biomass production in order to rank the hybrids and identify the best to advance to cultivar development as well as to be used in further crosses in the breeding program. aBrachiaria Humidicola aGramínea Forrageira aMelhoramento Genético Vegetal aPastagem aBraquiária1 aRESENDE, R.
