E. aRegional assessment of strategies for maize production in semi-arid eastern Kenya. aIndooroopilly: CSIROc2001 a34 p. a(Tropical Agriculture Technical Memorandum, 8). aThis report arises from extension fo ACIAR Project nÂș 8735 " Improvement of dryland crop and forage production in semi-arid Africa". It extends earlier studies of strategies for improving maize production in semi-arid eastern Kenya to the wider geographical region of Machakos / Kitui Districts. Climatic data were collated for 44 sites in the region. Seven of these sites were selected, representing the range of agroecological zones in the disctrict and for which a good length of daily raingall records are available. These were used as input for the maize model CMKEN to explore a number of management options that impinge on maize yields and riskiness of cropping. For most of the scenarios simulated, two soils were used; these differed mainly in respect of their water holding characteristics... aAfrica aMilho aKenia aSemi-arido1 aKEATING, B. A.1 aLARKENS, A.
