R. aAluminium tolerance of soya bean genotypes in short term experiments. c1994 aField techniques to select for aluminium tolerance are very laborious, time consuming and need to be repeated along crop seasons to minimize the effects of uncontrolled environmental factors. The logical alternative is the use of hydroponics experiments that are easy to conduct, quick and non-destructive. Early testing can be efficient in the identification of Al-tolerant genotypes if problems related to seed vigour are thoroughly controlled. Measurements as early as 24 hours after the beginning of treatment did not yield consistent results. However, root measurements 96 hours after the beginning of treatment yielded differences among varieties which are more related to field performance in acid soils. This method can be employed in screening soya beans for Al-tolerance. agenetics aions aminerals anutrient solutions asoybeans avarieties aAlumínio aCerrado aGenótipo aGlycine Max aÍon aMineral aSeleção Genética aSoja aSolução Nutritiva aVariedade aAluminium aGenotypes aSelection aTolerance aTolerancia tEuphyticagv.76, p.73-80, 1994.
