Firstly, it requires the adoption of an appropriate nomenclature to avoid misleading among researchers, technicians and farmers. Also, it is necessary to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the main grazing methods, say continuous vs. rotational stocking. Nowadays, particular emphasis is to be given to the morphophysiological traits of the grass under grazing, which can help the manager to evaluate the grassland condition and to establish defoliation frequencies and intensities in order to maximize the efficiency of herbage utilization. Considering the expansion of rotational stocking among farmers in the Northeast Region of Brazil, the basic conditions to setup this grazing method are discussed and include: favorable climatic factors or grassland irrigation possibility, adequate soil fertility management, rigorous control of animal health, adoption of high production grasses and constancy of qualified technical assistance. To obtain a satisfactory response of the use of intensive grassland management, it is of paramount importance to view this know-how as a multidisciplinary subject and to optimize the use of its variables. aCriação intensiva aManejo aOvino aPastagem cultivada aPastejo aSistema intensivo de produção1 aCÂNDIDO, M.
