S. aCulicoidesbvectors, climate change and disease risk.h[electronic resource] c1996 aThe significance of Culicoides in relation to their ability to cause medical, veterinary and financial losses is briefly described. As' examples the review concentrates upon African horse sickness virus (AHSV) and bluetongue virus (BTV) which are the two most important pathogens transmitted by Culicoides. Aspects of the clinical disease caused by these viruses, their vertebrate host ranges and the identity of the vector species of Culicoides are all dealt with. Fina11Y1 the 1ikely effects of climate change upon the existing global distributions of AHSV and BTV are described using past epizootics to highlight those environmental and biological factors that are of especial significance. aBluetongue virus aCulicoides aDisease transmission aInsect vectors aSheep diseases aVirus transmission aCaprino aDoença Animal aLíngua Azul aOvino aVetor aVírus1 aFRES.
