EAST AFRICAN X TOGGENBURGh[electronic resource] c1986 aAbstract: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the genetic resistance against Haemonchus contortus infection in three breeds of goatsEast African, (E.A.) Galla (G) and East African X Toggenburg (EAXT). They were infected with a dose of 500 infective larvae per Kg liveweight. Body weight, packed cell volume (PCV) and egg per gram (EPG) were determined twice for 13 weeks. The mortality was lowest for the E.A., 25 percent and highest for the Galla, 67 percent while EAXT was 46 percent. Body weight loss as percentage of the weight of controls were 7.3., 17.6. and 13.8 percent for EA, Galla and EAXT. respectively. The mean drop in PCV was 17.7, 17.1. and 15.1 percent for EA, Galla and EAXT respectively. The results demonstrate lower susceptibility to Haemonchus in EA than either Galla or EAXT. aDisease resistance aGastrointestinal nematodes aGoat diseases aGoats aNematode infections aCaprino aHaemonchus Contortus aResistĂȘncia GenĂ©tica aNematodeos1 aRURANGIRWA, F.1 aRUVUNA, F.
