C. aPurification and characterization of Corynebacterium ovis exotoxin. c1972 aAbstract: A scheme for the purification of Corynebacterium ovis toxin by fractional precipitation with ammonium sulphate has been described. Based on four experiments a mean yield of 219·1 per cent. of the original activity was obtained. The mean concentration effected was 96-fold. Expressing the activity of the toxin per mg. of non-dialysable nitrogen, the mean purification value achieved was 361·3 per cent. The dermo-necrotic and staphylococcal beta-haemolysin inhibition activities of C. ovis toxin behaved identically to precipitation by ammonium sulphate, inactivation with formaldehyde and heat, neutralization by antitoxin and fractionation by Sephadex G-100. These two activities are considered to be the manifestation of the same protein moiety. The toxin appears to be composed of two components, one a stable high molecular weight and the other an unstable low molecular weight protein. aAnimal diseases aApplication methods aCaseous lymphadenitis aExotoxins aCorynebacterium Ovis aDoença Animal aLinfadenite Caseosa aAmmonium sulphate aCaracterização1 aSINGH, I.
