The program, developed using CD-ROM, includes a database of 681 trees. For each tree, extensive descriptive data and text, drawings, and color photographs, are included. A database search function allows users to query the database and locate trees satisfying particular characteristics. The expert system provides a more comprehensive interface to the database by asking the user detailed questions about the site at which the tree will be planted. The expert system then formulates a more appropriate query.
