Leaf extracts from those samples in addition to a sample of Alternanthera philoxeroides (Mart.) Griseb. were used to compare band patterns induced by Peroxidase (PO), alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), alanine dehydrogenase (ALDH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) by using the discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The zymograms showed band pattern for all samples with strong activity for PO, ADH, and ALDH. None of the samples showed SOD activities. The isozyme analysis allowed the distinction of biotypes of A. tenella and also their differentiation from A. philoxeroides. This the first report discribing the occurrence of biotypes of A. tenella using leaf isozymes analysis. Alternanthera philoxeroides (Mart.)
