Adaptation to our climatic and cultural conditions (high yields) requires adequate description of the plants physiology as a function of soil and climate. For that purpose, a crop simulation model (SOYGRO), developed in USA (Gainesville, Florida) was used to simulate late maturing varieties, which first supposes the adaptation of the model varieties grown in our environment. A sensitivity analysis enhances the impact of varietal parameters on the model simulations and indicates the required accuracy for these parameters. The model is mainly affected by some phenological parameters while those which describle leaves formation have little influence. The calibration concerns varieties of maturity groups I and II, two indeterminates (Weber and Kingsoy) and a determinate (INRA 172-16). SOYGRO was validated for mediterranean climate sites. Phenological stages are predicted with an error of about 4 to 5 days while for yield it is about 0.3 t/ha.
