Editado por Caetano Traina Júnior. aThis work presents semantic constructions aimed to support distribution in an object oriented data model. These distribution constructs are intended for a high availability of data and are motivated by the needs of project support systems. The main concept is the separation and/or replication of database components is manynodes. To maintain the receability of each item (object) in each node, a kind of link with the original node is mantained in each copy of an object wich the place whenethe object was first created. Five types of links were defined: read only (r-) isolated (is), snapshot (fl), mutually exclusive (me) and independent (in). This arrangement allows the copied and the original database component both to envolve in parallel, restricted by the rulesimposed by the kind f links between them. After a while, the copied and the original database components may suffer an integration process, which is also characterized by these kinds of links stablished when the replication/separation was first done.1 aFERREIRA, J.
