Three species of forage legumes: Macroptilium atropurpureum cv. Siratro, Centrosema pubescens Benth e Galactia striata (Jacq.) Ub. NO-282, were studied and cultivated in plots, on two differents soils, with and without cuts, in a greenhouse belonging to the Agronomic Section of the "Instituto de Zootecnia", at Nova Odessa, SP, Brazil, during the winter, when were observed their vegetative development and foliar surface loss. On the Red-yellow Podzolic Soils Laras Variation, the dry matter production was practically equal for the Centro and the Galaxia, being higher for the Siratro; on the Red-yellow Latosol Sandy Phase the productions of Centro and Galaxia were almost the same, anda little more for Siratro. The weight relation of root and the aerial part of the plant, on the two soils, was always reduced for the uncut tratment, independetly of the species. It was found that after a declining of temperature always occurred an increase in the number of lost leaves. Under the uncut tratment the plants presented the highest number of lost leaves, and so, the biggest foliar surface loss. The Podzolic soil showed higher loss than the Latosol Sandy Phase un these particular, due to its higher production, with plants that had more leaves. The dry matter of the nodules for Centro and Galaxia was bigger at the uncut tratment and the opposite occurred for Siratro. In relation to the characteristics studied, it seems that we could expect better... aforage anutrition aCrescimento aLeguminosa Forrageira aMatéria Seca aPastagem aPlanta Forrageira aProdução Animal aSenescência aZootecnia aCrescimento vegetal aDry matter aForage plant aGrass aGrowth aNutricao mineral aPasture aSenescence aVegetal growth aZootechny
