H. P. aSelection of sugarcane families and parents by Reml/Blup. c2005 aWe evaluated 113 full-sib families of sugarcane obtained by unbalanced diallel matings in 3 experiments conducted in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in an augmented block design (ABD). The individual and joint analyses of the experimental results were performed by the Reml/Blup method. The use of ABD without replication did not prove adequate in experiments of family selection due to the low heritability estimate at the level of family means compared with the joint analysis of the 3 experiments. The results suggested the predominance of the additive effects for all evaluated traits: number of stalks, weight of stalks per hectare, and mean stalk weight. The components of estimated means via Blup allowed the selection of families and superior parents.. agenetic improvement asugarcane aAugmented blocks aBlocos aumentados aBlocos incompletos aCana-de-açúcar aIncomplete blocks aMelhoramento genético aMixed models aModelos mistos aPredição de cruzamentos aPrediction of crossings1 aRESENDE, M.
