Unfortunately, the progress in the area of recycling thermosetting polymers such as rubbers has not been as successful, since these materiais are crosslinked and not biodegradable. Scrap tires are a major source of thermosetting materiais found in the waste. In this work, processing conditions to obtain matrices made from powdered tire rubber have been prepared by hot-press molding. The effects of temperature, and time at different processing conditions on the performance of the matrices have been studied. The matrices obtained have been characterized by tensile properties, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The results have shown that under the conditions investigated the best processing conditions to make the matrix were: temperature 200 °C, for 3 h, at 4.1 MPa. The matrices obtained in these conditions have shown homogenous morphology without holes and failures. The different processing conditions studied do not influence the thermal stability of the rubber matrices. aBorracha aPolímeros aPropriedades mecânicas aPropriedades térmicas1 aJOEKES, I.1 aFERREIRA, F.
