This species, as many others, has low natural longevity, requiring controlled environmental conditions to conserve the seed viability for longer period of time. In this study the seeds were conserved in dry storage (20oC of temperature and45% of relative humidity), cold storage (3-5oC and 90-100% and laboratory environment (fluctuacting temperature and humidities). In all cases, seeds were stored in two different containers: polyethylene containers, and kraft containers. The dry storage room was the best for the conservation of the viability, and no differences were detected between the containers types. In cold storage room, the polyethylene containers due to its less porosity, maintained the seed viability longer than kraft containers. The critical level of humidity for the seed conservation of the species, in cold storage room, was 13-14%. Above this threshold, a rapid loss of the seed viability had been noticed. With low moisture content, temperatures below 20oC were adequate for the conservation of seed viability. The fluctuating temperatures and relative humidity observed in laboratory conditions were hormfull for the conservation. astorage aArmazenamento aSemente aIpe-dourado aSeed1 aMARQUEZ, F. C.
