O. aCaracteristicas do Eucalipto como combustivelbanalise quimica imediata da madeira e da casca c1978 aThe purpose of this paper has been to study the proportion of volatile matter, fixed carbon, and ash in the wood and bark of various Eucalyptus species. These analyses are important to a material used as fuel. The proportion of volatile components and fixed carbon influences the burning characteristic of a fuel, because the volatile components are driven off when heated and burn rapidly in the gaseous phase, and fixed carbon burns slowly in the solid phase-like charcoal. The following conclusions could be drawn: a) Significant difference was detected with respect to the volatile mater and fixed carbon between wood and bark. b) Eucalyptus bark, in general, has more fixed carbon and less volatile matter than their respective wood. c) The Eucalyptus cloesiana wood presented the higher fixed carbon (23,3%); in regards to the volatile matter, Eucalyptus grandis presented higher percentage (89,9%), followed by Eucalyptus microcorys (86,2%). d) The ash content of the bark of Eucalyptus species was higher than that of the wood. aEucalyptus afuels aCombustível1 aBARRICHELO, L.
