G. aEnsinamentos dum incêndio em plantação de araucaria. c1949 aReport on recent fire at the Forestry Station of Itangua. This Station belongs to the National Pine Institute and is situated near Capao Bonito, in the State of Sao Paulo. The fire starded on a neighbouring farm, some time after midday, apparently as a result of a carelessly discarded match. It penetrated the Station, and was not extinguished until after nightfall. By that time it had destroyed 45 hectares of twoyear old plantations of Parana Pine. Occurring as it did following a prolonged period of drought and at least two frosts that had killed much of the natural ground vegetation, the fire encountered ready fuel throughout; within the plantations, the weeds had been cut during the preceeding wet season, and the dead vegetation left between the lines of the young Pine trees constituted a most inflammable type of material. The authors made a detailed study of the fire and its control. tAnuario Brasileiro de Economia Florestal, Rio de Janeirogv. 2, n. 2, p. 193-199, 1949.
