N. aField inoculation of american beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) with V-A mycorrhizal fungi. c1989 aA. breviligulata was inoculated with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizas (VAM) isolated from wild stands of the plant andcontaining spores of Acaulospora scrobiculata, Gigaspora gigantea, Scutellospora calospora, S. erythropa, S. persica,S. pellucida, S. reticulata, Glomus aggregatum and G. fasciculatum when tillers were placed in open sand which wasbarren of vegetation after a fire 10 years previously. Inoculation improved establishment, early growth and panicleproduction and root VAM colonization reached 48.8% by the end of the 1st growing season. By the end of the 2ndgrowing season, VAM colonization was also present in uninoculated plants and there was no difference in the number ofleaves and tillers between treatments. aAmmophila breviligulata amycorrhizal fungi aAreia aCampo aDuna aDune soil aEndomicorriza aEstabelecimento aEstablishment aMycorrhiza1 aKOSKE, R.
