New technologies have been developed and/or adapted to the differing environments. Sustainable production systems for upland rice have been developed as altematives to soybean monoculture, and technology transfer to producers is being implemented. Rice has, traditionally, being a marginal and itinerant upland crop, preceding soybean production and cattle raisin after opening new cerrado lands. The use of soil management practices and natural resources and new crop rotation technologies constitute a very promising production system to replace soybean and sugar cane monocultures. aAgricultura Alternativa aAgricultura Sustentável aCerrado aDesenvolvimento Sustentável aTecnologia1 aYOKOYAMA, L.
