Willemse. aIn this thesis a comparison of gametophyte development between a sexual diploid and an apomictic tetraploid genotype of Brachiaria decumbens was made. Apomixis is asexual reproduction leading to a seed. An introduction is given on apomixis in general and in particular of Brachiaria. The work started with morphological and cytological observations of sporophyte and gametophyte development to detect the moments in which the sexual and apomictic development differ and therefore some points of regulation could be identified.
