The addition of 4 vol. % glycerol was undertaken inin three steps. The first one 2 % in the initial diluent at 30-32o C (50% of the final volume) and the other two at 6% in the final dilution at 20o. y 5o C respectively (25% of the final volume each time). The cooling at 5o C was made in 30-45 minutes, with an equilibration time of 60 minutes. Samples of seen were frozen horizontally in medium size straws (0.5 ml) for 5 minutes, 4 cm above the surface of the liquid N2, and thawed in 10 seconds in water at 75o C. Samples below 60% of progressive motility were discarded. In 35 native goats, intracervical insemination was perfomance twice during estrual period 68.6 % conceived during the first period and 14.4 % in a second period, with a total of 82.8% and 1.4 kidding per goat. To overcome rapid lose of fertility of liquid semen, frozen semen is reccomended for crossbreeding in caprine herds. aartificial insemination agoats aCabra aCaprino aInseminação Artificial aDeep frozen semen aSemen congelado tZootecniagv. 24, n. 3/4, p. 151-163, 1995.
