L. aThe utilization of phytate phosphorus by sheep.h[electronic resource] c1947 aPhytates ingested by sheep in several different feedstufs under various conditions of calcium and phosphorus intake are completely hydrolysed in the alimentary tract. With the usual types of feedstuff which remain in the rumen during the earlier stages of digestion phytate hydrolysis is completed there. An in vitro experiment with a mixture of bran and ruminal contents held at 37oC has demonstrated that under these conditions there is practically complete hydrolysis of the phytate within 8 hours. The relative importance of plant and micro-organismal enzymes in effecting phytate hydrolysis in the rumen is discussed. asheep aOvino aAcido fitico aFosforo fitato aPhytate phosphorus aUses1 aFRANKLIN, M.
