Appraisal of parameters of the model of multiple linear regression equations by the stepwise backward method, having Tm as dependent variable and altitude, latitude and longitude as independent variables, were carried out for the 36 ten-day periods of the year. Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient between assessed and observed Tm, calculated for ten counties of the state applying data of the series of meteorological observations over 1975-2004. The ten-day mean minimum temperature may be assessed through the geographic coordinates – altitude, latitude and longitude – at any place or ten-day period, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and the altitude and latitude is the geographic coordinates that more explain the variation of the Tm. aClima1 aMALUF, J.
