Thisstudy aimsto present a methodology for obtaining and preparing environmental covariates related to soil formation (lithology) and transformation (land use/land cover) to support digital soil mapping in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. Maps provided by the Geological Survey of Brazil and the MapBiomas Project were used. Lithology and land use/land cover classes, respectively, were merged according to class similarity and soil-landscape correlation.
