Concerns about the impact of livestock production on the environment have arisen around the world in recent years, due to the emission of methane, a GHG. The aim on this study was to evaluate performance of the H13 clone of Eucalyptus urograndis at 12 years of age, at two planting densities under integrated crop-livestock-forestry systems (ICLF). The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Beef Cattle in Campo Grande (Brazil). Trees were planted in two distributions: ICLF with eucalyptus distant 2.0 m between trees and 14.0 m between rows with a density of 357 trees ha-1 (ICLF14) and, with eucalyptus distant 2.0 m between trees and 22.0 m between rows, with a density of 227 trees ha-¹ (ICLF22). This work investigated carbon sequestration in trees, therefore a dendrological analysis was performed on trees: diameter at breast height (DBH, cm) and tree height (H, m) and the volume of wood was calculated (m³) per ha to estimate the carbon sequestered in tree trunks. The 12-year-old ICLF, with final densities close to 113 trees ha-¹, sequester carbon in the wood of logs for sawmills (4.42 Mg Eq CO2 ha-¹ year-¹ of pasture used), enough to neutralize the enteric methane emitted by beef cattle (1.8 Mg Eq CO2 emissions per 1.0 AU (animal-unit) year-¹ at the average stocking rates of pastures in Brazil (0.90 AU ha-¹), thus being able to produce carbon-neutral beef. aCarbon sequestration aSilvopastoral systems aSustainable development aCarbono aDesenvolvimento Sustentável aEucalyptus spp aEucalyptus urograndis1 aRIZZON, M.
