Ex Steud via induction of epicormic sprouts in branches from mature trees.h[electronic resource] c2021 aShort communication. aCordia trichotoma (Vell.) Arrab. Ex Steud belongs to the Boraginaceae family and has great economic and ecological interest with a high demand for its timber and non-timber products. Vegetative propagation allows selection of superior genotypes and induction of epicormic sprouts in branches from mature trees could promote selection of trees with specific traits of interest. This way, we selected 18 progenies with traits of interest, harvested their branches, and placed each section of the branches in a mist chamber. We counted, harvested, and staked the lateral sprout when they reached at least 6 cm immersed in IBA solution for 10 s (1500 mg L?1). We evaluated survival percentage at 60 and 210 days after staking. We observed high epicormic sprouting capacity with a broad variation among progenies, however, a low adventitious rooting percentage (10% max.) was observed, and only 8 out of 18 progenies had cloned seedlings. aPlant cuttings aVegetative propagation aCordia Trichotoma aPropagação Vegetativa aAdventitious rooting aBrazilian atlantic forest aClonal seedlings aEstaquia aMata Atlântica aMudas clonais1 aSIQUEIRA, D.
