Brasília, DF: Embrapa Recursos Genéticos e Biotecnologia, 1999. 1 CD-ROM.c1999 aThe Morada Nova and Santa Inês are the two most important breeds of hair sheep raised in Brazil, found mainly in the Northeast and Central States and both are regarded as being highly resistant to the environmental conditions found in these regions. The Santa Inês is thought to have originated as a cross between the Morada Nova and other breeds and is still in formation as a breed. This study aims to compare these two breeds in terms of heat stress in conditions found in Central Brazil. There was no significant difference between the breeds for body weight. These results show that there is a need to further study the heat tolerance of these breeds in the Centre region of Brazil. aBrazil aEnvironment aGoats aHeart rate aRaça Morada Nova aRaça Santa Inês aRectal temperature aRespiration rate1 aMcMANUS, C.1 aCOUTO, F.
